Frequently Asked Questions

Hello there, are you tired of seeing piles of stuff around your home? Junk It is here to help you clean up and feel fantastic about your space. We have different sizes of dumpsters that are just right for you. Let’s find out how choosing the right dumpster size can make your cleanup super easy and exciting.

Most Common Junk It Dumpster Rental Questions and Answers

Find answers to your inquiries here. Let’s dive in!

Who is Junk It?

We started our company in 2002.

We are 100% Canadian owned.

We are licensed by the Ministry of the Environment and carry comprehensive million liability insurance. All of our workers are covered by Worker’s Comp, and we have an excellent safety record. Safety, both for our workers and our customers, is our number-one priority on the job.

We’re the highest-rated dumpster and garbage bin rental service in the area. With 110 recent Google reviews averaging 4.9 out of 5, plus over 398 positive reviews on Facebook and Yelp, our reputation speaks for itself. We’re proud winners of the Best of HomeStars award, and our experienced, friendly team is always here to help.

In short, to make sure you don’t get over-charged. We will deliver your bin anywhere from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and we cannot guarantee that you will have a full day’s use of the bin on either the pickup or delivery day. It doesn’t seem fair to charge you for use of the bin for only part of the day, so we don’t charge you at all for those days.

What does Junk It Do?

We provide garbage bin rental services. They are also called garbage bins, dumpsters, junk bins, skips etc. Essentially, we provide a large metal container that can be filled up. It is delivered to your property for homes and businesses.

We accept all non-hazardous material including but not limited to:

  • Household Debris –

Boxes of junk, tables, chairs, bookshelves, desks, upholstered furniture, flooring materials, pots and pans and toys.

  • Construction Debris –

Lumber, drywall, plaster, siding, scrap metal, countertops, cabinets, vanities.

  • Shingles –

Asphalt, slate and metal shingles, flashing, underlayment, gutters.

  • Appliances –

stoves, washing machines, dryers. They must not include freon. Fridges and freezers are not allowed.

  • Yard Waste –

small amounts (less than two garbage bags) of branches and leaves are accepted.
  • Adhesives – like glue or epoxy, should be disposed of with regular household trash or recycling instead of a roll off dumpster. Loose adhesives can damage the container. They might also cause debris to stick together or to the container walls, making them hard to remove.
  • Car batteries – as well as lithium batteries, cannot go in a dumpster because they can leak harmful chemicals. Take old car batteries to a local recycler or auto shop. Lithium batteries, like those found in laptops, can be recycled at most electronics retailers. Alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, D, etc.) cannot go in a dumpster.
  • Fluorescent bulbs – contain small amounts of mercury, so they cannot go in the dumpster.
  • Food waste – is often prohibited from roll off dumpsters since it can attract rodents or make a mess in the container. If you have to dispose of large amounts of food waste, consider using municipal trash services.
  • Freon – Refrigerators, freezers and AC units cannot be disposed of in the dumpster unless the freon is removed by a professional. Freon-containing appliances can usually be picked up by local sanitation departments as part of their bulk debris pickup schedule. Or some retailers will take your old appliances when you purchase a replacement.
  • Heavy Material – heavy debris, such as concrete, brick, block and asphalt, are not allowed in the bins unless you rent a soil or concrete only bin.
  • Hot water tanks – are not accepted in any dumpster because they can contain harmful gases inside of them that have a high risk of exploding. Other hot water heater disposal options include selling, scrapping or donating.
  • Household Cleaners – Chemical cleaners or solvents should not be tossed in a dumpster. However, you may throw empty containers in your dumpster as long as they are rinsed out and do not contain any residual chemicals.
  • Inks and resins – used in pens and printers can damage equipment and stain the interior of dumpsters. These are best disposed of through recycling centers or retailers with drop-off services.
  • Oils, Fuels, & Propane Tanks – Propane tanks, fuels, oils, and other flammable materials are serious safety hazards when tossed in a dumpster. These substances are highly combustible, and it is illegal to dispose of them improperly in most areas.

Tip: Contact a propane company, your local fire department or hazardous material collection center to learn how to dispose of these items safely.

  • Paint & Paint Cans – Full or partially full cans of wet paint generally cannot go in a dumpster, including paint thinners, lacquers or wood stains. However, in most municipalities, you can dispose of dry latex paint as long as you wrap the sealed can in a plastic bag. You might also consider finding household hazardous waste depots in your area.
  • Railroad Ties and Telephone Poles – Lumber materials like railroad ties and telephone poles are treated with harmful wood preservatives and aren’t allowed in our dumpsters. However, some landfills will accept intact railroad ties.

Tip: To reuse railroad ties, try contacting organizations like Habitat for Humanity or even local businesses looking for landscaping supplies or parking lot bumpers.

  • Tires – Most landfills do not accept tires because they can trap gases and take a long time to decompose. Instead of tossing tires in a dumpster, contact your local municipality, an auto parts store or tire dealership.
  • Flammable or ignitable wastes start fires easily or can quickly intensify an existing fire, so they must be thrown away properly. All it takes is a small spark from the garbage truck or a lit cigarette to trigger an explosion in just a few minutes.

Examples:
Kerosene, matches and flares, rubbing alcohol, diesel fuel, cleaning solvents, nail polish remover, motor oil

  • Corrosive waste – is very acidic or basic materials that can cause severe harm to human skin and even erode metal containers, like dumpsters and trash cans. This makes them not only a serious risk to waste workers, but also harmful to the environment, because they can contaminate groundwater and hurt marine life if thrown out improperly.

Examples:
Rust remover, oven cleaner, chlorine bleach, automotive lead-acid batteries

  • Reactive wastes – are unstable in normal environments and may explode under regular pressure, in normal temperatures or when exposed to water. The heat of a landfill or garbage truck compressor may increase the likelihood of these compressed gases exploding or releasing toxic fumes, which can seriously burn your eyes, nose, throat and more.

Examples:
Propane tanks, oxygen tanks, partially filled aerosol cans, ammunition, fertilizer

  • Toxic Wastes –Toxic materials can be dangerous or lethal if ingested or exposed to the skin. Some toxic wastes may cause severe eye or skin irritation, respiratory troubles, and even contamination of local ecosystems or watersheds if they are not handled correctly.

Examples:
Medications, antifreeze, pesticides, fluorescent lightbulbs

  • Biohazardous waste – consists of potentially infectious materials or substances, such as blood. Of special concern are sharp wastes such as needles, blades, glass pipettes, and other wastes that can cause injury during handling.

Examples:
Blood, needles/sharps, bodily fluids, animal waste, animal body parts.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

No damage. We have an ultra-modern robotics delivery system that places the bin on the driveway very gently plus we put wood down as a further precaution.

Where does Junk It Service?

Please see the full list of the areas we serve here.

All the materials are sent to facilities that are licensed by the Ministry of Environment and have strict adherence to environmental laws and legislation.

When does Junk It operate?

We operate Monday to Saturday.

How does service work?

Make sure you select a bin a little larger than you may need. It can be a costly mistake if you choose a bin that is too small for your project. It is best to try and determine how many cubic feet of junk you need to get removed. Eg: 10 cubic yards would fit 10 kitchen stoves because they are typical 1 cubic yard (3x3x3 feet).

Our standard rental period is three days (not including delivery and pick-up date so bin is at your location for 5 days. Extra days can be added at $20 per day.

Call, text, email or order online.

Though we’re busy year-round, we can often provide same or next-day junk hauling and trash collection services. That said, we do encourage you to book well in advance if you are in a time-sensitive situation, such as a real estate closing, so that we can be sure to accommodate you.

No. Just let us know you will not be at the location, and we’ll make sure we deliver and pick up your bin, garbage container, or mini bins in the right place. We can arrange all payments over the phone.

We require 15 feet by 9 feet of space. If you need the dumpster delivered to a small driveway or alley, be sure to double check the dimensions of the dumpster you want to order compared  it to the space you have available.
When considering the space you need, keep in mind that dumpsters typically have an 8 ft. wide door that swings open on the back (or two 4-foot doors).
If you plan on loading through the door (rather than throwing debris over the top), then add an additional 4-8 feet of length needed for the door to swing open.

The bin must be filled level so we can transport it safely.

Junk It is an amazing group of people. Each and every time I have contacted them, they have showed up on time and with a great personality. My company de-clutters, organizes, and renovates. I have either called on Junk It to pick up clutter from a client’s home on a specific day or a bin has been dropped for me to fill and have removed at a later date. De-Clutter2clean is all about the environment. The great feature about Junk It is once they remove your unwanted clutter it is then taken to be sorted and recycled. De-Clutter2clean has been using Junk It for the pass five (5) years and will continue to use them as my sort for removing my client’s clutter. Great job!

I was referred to JuNK-iT by a very good friend. I used their services at my home during a move. The thing that I found amazing with JuNK-iT was how friendly the booking and on-site staff were. A huge contrast to a lot of other junk removal and Bin companies. The pricing was up front, and accessible, no hidden costs! I was so impressed with my at home services that I used them at my workplace for yard clean-up on more than one occasion. On every visit the crew were always polite, and fast! Even the billing and invoicing was as quoted….what more could I ask. I would and do recommend them to anyone needed Junk removal.
