While the winter semester is ending for some students, the summer semester is just beginning for others.

 Dorm Room Checklist

Every student brings some possessions with them when they move into their dorm rooms. Some students seem to pack their entire homes with them, while others seem to bring not much more than a few sets of spare clothing.

You don’t want to be under-prepared, otherwise you’ll spend a semester or more being unable to do some of the things you would have if you had packed properly, or you might buy the item that you’re missing and end up with two such items instead.

However if you bring too much with you, you’ll have to move it all out again at the end of the year and risk being stuck with a pile of clutter in your likely small space.

You could call Junk It! to get rid of all your unwanted items at the end of your school year, or you could simply pack smart and bring all the necessities you’ll need this year, and nothing more.

We’ve provided a list below of the things that you’ll most likely need during your time in the dorms.

Kitchen Essentials

If you’re living in a shared space, you may want to coordinate with your roommate(s) or housemate(s) on what to bring so you don’t end up with too many of the same items. On the other hand, living arrangements can change throughout the year, so it’s a good idea to have your own essentials.

If you’re not much of a cook, you may want to bring less but if you’re the type of make all your meals from scratch, you’ll want to pack everything you’re likely to use:

  • coffee mugs
  • a few sets of bowls and plates
  • water pitcher
  • can opener
  • knife
  • spatula turner

  • garbage bags
  • a few glasses
  • paper towels
